giuseppe nada barbaresco casot 2017

Giuseppe Nada purchased the family's first vineyard in the commune of Treiso in 1900. Today, Giuseppe (the grandson) and his wife Nella maintain the vineyards where they do practically all of the work. At the same time, their daughter Barbara manages the office, and their son Enrico oversees the wine production down in the cellar.

Enrico made several decisive changes at the winery after graduating from enology school when returning to the vineyard. He quickly eliminated the addition of SO2 during fermentation and convinced his father to start farming organically (certified) and to plant white varieties (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Arneis). All parcels are hand-harvested, and all the red wines continue to be fermented spontaneously.

Their Barbaresco Casot comes from the eponymous Cru in the village of Treiso with vines planted between 1960 and 2012. The grapes go through spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, with extended maceration on the skins. The wine is aged for two years: the 1st year in 1000L botticelle and the 2nd year in big Slavonian casks. It is aged an additional six months in bottle and released with minimal filtration.
