giacomo brezza & figli barolo 2015

The Brezza estate is located next to the small town of Barolo, surrounded by vineyards and the nearby Hotel Barolo and Restaurant Brezza--both owned by the Brezza family. They have owned and operated their winery and vineyards since 1885 and named after Giacomo Brezza, who, with his father Antonio, had produced their first bottle in 1910. Enzo is the fourth generation of his family to lead the estate.

The estate extends over 31 hectares, of which 20 are vineyards, some dating back to 1885 and including holdings in many Crus vineyards. All the wines bear either the DOC or DOCG appellation. The farming is done organically, and they use natural yeast for both fermentations.

The 2015 Brezza Barolo is a blend of grapes from the estate's vineyards in Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, and Novello, grown on a clay-silt mix, sand, and silt soils. The wines are traditionally aged in large non-toasted Slavonian oak barrels of 3000 liters. It is aged for two years in large barrels and one year in the bottle without filtration.
